Featuring the 90 min NCFDD webinar conducted by Kathryn Bridges Harley Clancy, an American biological anthropologist who specializes in reproductive health. She is Associate Professor at the University of Illinois, in the Department of Anthropology. Her additional research and policy advocacy work focuses on sexual harassment in science and academia. Dr. Kathryn Clancy is a nationally-recognized expert in the area of sexual harassment in academic science and was a co-author of the recent National Academies report on sexual harassment of women in STEM. The purpose of this webinar is to describe the reality of the lived experience of harassment in academic settings and offer paths for improving climate and taking personal responsibility for those times we have power over others. Clancy will define sexual harassment and explore gender harassment in particular, as the seemingly "lesser" form of harassment that can have worse personal and professional consequences for academic women and gender minorities. She will leverage these data to understand the consequences of harassment, especially for women and gender minorities of color. Then, she will offer some interpersonal and structural solutions to prevent harassment in our classrooms, research groups, labs, faculty meetings, and beyond.
