Educator, mentor, author and transformational speaker Dr. Christine Grant has been inspiring indiviudals and groups towards academic excellence for over 25 years at the university level. While at Lehigh University, Dr. Grant will meet in small groups with students and faculty from RCEAS, get to know our STEM faculty women and talk about career goal planning, and facilitate a working session with Lehigh ADVANCE leadership and STEM faculty to gain insight into how diversity and inclusion plans work for academic departments as part of university wide efforts to transform the climate at Lehigh.

During the February 10th Keynote, "Leveraged Empowerment: Having Innovation, Going Higher!" Dr. Grant will share her story and identify empowerment strategies women engineers can harness for academic and career success. The presentation is open to all members of the Lehigh community interested in exploring issues related to gender diveristy and inclusion in modern engineering and is sponsored by the Lehigh Women Engineers Program to encourage mentoring, networking and collaboration among and for our community of women engineers.

Keynote: Tuesday, February 10, 2015, 4:10 pm, Packard Lab Room 101. Registration is free and open to all members of the Lehigh community via www.lehigh.edu/lwe.

Reception to follow in Packard Lab Lobby.

Dr. GrantDr. Grant is a Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Associate Dean of Faculty Development and Special Initiatives, College of Engineering at North Carolina State University. Her research group focuses on an evaluation of the mechanisms that control fouling and decontamination processes. The formation and removal of deposits is governed by a combination of chemical and transport processes at the solid-liquid interface, in the bulk liquid and in the film itself. Although general models have been used to describe cleaning and fouling, there is still a lack of understanding of the fundamental mechanisms underlying both the physical and chemical aspects of these processes. Insight into both the initial stages of fouling and the removal of trace residues is necessary to develop environmentally benign cleaning technologies in the chemical, food, and electronics industries.

Dr. Grant conducts faculty development workshops at her home institution and for other universities with special focus on increasing participation of women and people of color in STEM and Engineering. She is a member of the senior leadership team of NC State's ADVANCE program.  She is also a licensed career coach, author, inspirational speaker, mentor, with engineering degrees from Brown University (BS) and the Georgia Institute of Technology (MS, PhD).
