Workshop: Deepening the Conversation on Excellent & Inclusive Teaching-

Monday, January 14, 2019 - 9:00am to Tuesday, January 15, 2019 - 4:00pm
January 14-15 Workshops on Inclusive Excellence in Teaching; contact Christine Lake for more information (original invitation email came from Provost); Follow-up Workshop on Jan 14-15th for the ~35 folks who attended last January program. Intro program on 16-17th for folks who have not attended before.
The purpose of this follow-up workshop is to strengthen and advance the preparation of faculty (tenure track and professors of practice) to adopt strategies that promote inclusive excellence in their classes and in the curriculum across academic disciplines. This event is specifcally for those who already attended the January 2018 four-day workshop as it will extend that learning.

The first day (January 14) of the two-day workshop will start with World Café style round table discussions at which participants will discuss ongoing challenges of teaching various course types, such as large lectures, discussion-based seminars, and labs. A working lunch will focus on inclusive teaching in various discipline areas: STEM, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Business, and Interdisciplinary. After lunch, the focus will be on addressing additional challenges experienced in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We will end the day with a report-out from participants on lessons learned/best practices/takeaways.

The second day (January 15) will begin with facilitated opportunities for participants to develop and share strategies for extending and deepening their work, followed by suggestions for assessing the impact of inclusive teaching approaches.  A working lunch will feature a video on student voices. The afternoon session will include sharing of opportunities for future work in this area; a report-out on participants’ commitments and action steps; and an announcement of mini-grants to support faculty action steps.

We are planning to invite the department chairs, deans, associate deans, deputy provosts, and provost to attend and participate in the second day of the workshop.

We hope you will be able to join us for this important workshop. Please RSVP no later than Friday, December 14, 2018; here is the link:
